1. Entrance process
Vehicle arrives at the entrance: When the vehicle approaches the entrance of the car park, the inductive coil or other sensors detect the presence of the vehicle and activate the entrance control equipment.
Swipe card to enter the car park:
If it is a fixed user (e.g. monthly card, annual card user), when the vehicle enters, it needs to use the car park card (usually IC card or RFID card) to swipe the card on the card reader, the system reads the card information, verifies whether the card is valid or not, and records the time of entry.
If it is a temporary user, the system may issue a temporary card (similar to the paper ticket system's paper ticket), which is used to pay the fee when the vehicle exits.
Barrier opening: After the system passes the validation, it automatically raises the entrance barriers to allow vehicles to enter the car park.
2. Parking in the car park
Searching for parking space: Vehicles search for a vacant parking space according to the car park's guideposts or parking guidance system. Modern car parks are usually equipped with parking space status indicators or guidance screens to help drivers find empty spaces quickly.
3. Departure Process
Payment:
Fixed users: e.g. monthly or yearly card users, usually do not need to pay the fee, they just need to swipe their card again at the exit to leave the car park. The system will confirm whether the vehicle is a valid card user according to the information in the card.
Temporary Users: Temporary users are required to pay the parking fee at the self-service payment machine or manual payment counter in the car park. The vehicle owner swipes his/her card on the payment machine and the system calculates the parking fee. The user completes the payment by cash, bank card or electronic payment, and the system records the payment information and updates the card status.
Validation at the exit:
Fixed users simply swipe their cards to pass through.
Temporary users insert the paid card at the exit, and the system verifies that the parking fee has been paid and that the vehicle is within the stipulated free time (if any). After the verification is passed, the barriers will be lifted automatically to allow the vehicle to leave.
4. Background Management
User management: The system will manage the fixed user's card and record the user's validity period, number of times of admission and other information. The administrator can set the validity period of the card, limit the number of times of admission, etc. through the background management system.
Charge Management: The system will automatically record the parking time and charges of temporary users and generate corresponding financial statements for managing and analysing the operation of the car park.
Abnormal handling: If the card is lost or expired, the system can carry out abnormal handling, such as manual intervention, issuing temporary cards, and adding fines.
